Pretty not bad

I really don’t think I can complain about my weekend in Devon.

The crit was tough.  The points race format made it fairly interesting.  I didn’t enjoy it, given that I had no punch all night!  Just like last year, I think the long, hard time trial set me up for a night with no top end.  I managed to snag a couple points though.

Coming into the road race I was sitting second, with Gunderson many points ahead and a couple strong guys right behind me.  It was going to be a tough day.

The wind ripped the small field apart by the first KOM.  I actually managed to sprint for 3rd in that too.  The race basically sat up at that point.  Peter tried a solo attack, but ERTC brought that back and then sent Stephen Mundy up the road.  He rode amazing and just kept pushing his gap.

The race was on again when we got to the second KOM, but I couldn’t follow Cody’s acceleration, nor could I close the gap to him and Nick.

From there it was essentially setting up for the sprint.  I wanted Cody and/or Jeff’s wheel.  There were a couple solid attacks at the end, but Paul jumped on all of them.  He rode great today.  I couldn’t jump when Jeff went, but I came around Robin and held on for 3rd.  Pretty not bad!

Thanks to everyone for putting on a great race!  Thanks Peter for all your help this weekend!

I’m still struggling with a bit of being sick and I’m hoping it’s gone by the time I get on the plane to Boston tomorrow!

Or not

It’s been quite the week.

Banff finished off pretty good.  After a lot of up and down results, I finished with a solid road race.  I couldn’t quite push it to the front, but I managed to finish in the front group that had been slimmed down to 24.  I haven’t suffered like that in a long time!!

So I spent the next couple days recovering and coming back to reality.

Tuesday night I felt a scratch in my throat.

Wednesday I woke up and it was still there.  I didn’t feel bad after a short spin.  But when I rolled into work I was just not doing well at all!  Oh man.  I was sent home, knowing that I hardly ever get sick.

I thought lie on the couch all night and then I’ll be all good.

Or not.

I was relegated to the couch again and had to call into work.  Again.  Same thing on Friday.  I was on the mend, but I thought I just needed a little more couch time!

I managed to get myself together to race in Devon.

My warmup for the hill climb was a bit stale, obviously.  But my ride turned out to be pretty good.  I hurt.  A lot.  And my time was slow, but Bruce said he lengthened it from 2 years ago.  I put out some new high powers too!

I didn’t look at the results, but I asked Peter where I was.  I felt pretty dejected when he said mid-to-back, but he assured me I was only just on the mend from being sick.

I rode the time trial.  And I raced it pretty well.  I was actually having a lot of fun.  I love that course.  And I was going really fast.  I was getting pretty excited when the post-race talk had me thinking I placed really well!

And I went to cool down and check the hill climb results!  BAM!  Tied Bidniak for 4th!!

But that Cody kid is flying!  He lost time at the start and still managed to win by 6 seconds!!!  Wow!!!

Keep it rollin'

I just saw time trial results from this morning!

Wow!

Trek-Red Truck is amazing and are going to take home a lot of cash this weekend!  I really want to ride with those guys!!!

But I’m actually happy with my result!!  Yippee!!  I love my bike!!

And you know, let’s just keep these blog posts rolling!

"Kinda pathetic, actually"

Quoted from Bruce as he was giving me a hard time about spending so much time in front of the computer and still not posting on my blog…

I can’t explain why I’ve been so lazy lately, but this blog isn’t the only thing that has been suffering, be that good or bad.

But what’s been going on?

If you’re around cycling in Alberta you’ll know that I crashed at Pigeon Lake.  Crap!  Sorry guys.

The next day we spent the morning running around getting my bike functional again.  Then my mom, Colter, and I headed down to Hood River.  I was pretty excited to race even though my body was covered in bandages.

The prologue was good.  My power was awesome!  My time and placing were not up to what I was expecting.

The circuit race was good, no problems, until all of a sudden I can’t go that fast anymore.  What the?!?!?  I’m off the back…

I was looking forward to the time trial, where my power was decent again, but my time and result were still off what I wanted.

I wanted to redeem myself in the final road race.  But I just needed to be able to hang on a little longer.  Again, I found myself off the back, but after that first climb I was rolling along really well.  Very frustrating… but then I found Colter with a broken chain.  Crap!  Uhh, what to do?  Here, you take my bike, you’re doing better than me.

As I was watching J Sparls fantastically winning the crit the next day, I was disappointed.  I wanted to be in there!!  Oh well, tomorrow is another day!

From there it was a bit of work, a bit of riding, a bit of nothing.  I did move into Laura’s condo to house-sit for most of the summer.  It’s pretty cool.  Actually it’s pretty hot, it was at least 25 in there all week.  Haha.

Now I’m in Banff with Bruce, Peter, Dan, and Matt, staying at the Wheatley’s gorgeous place!!  My racing has been somewhat sub-par, but again, the sun will rise tomorrow!  There is also what should be a crazy crit tonight!!

What’s coming up?

Devon next weekend!

Fitchburg-Longsjo right after that!

Then do I go to summer school?  Do I go to some more races?  Do I work?

Then cyclocross!!  Yippee!!
