Thanks Dad!
So I rode most of today’s race in 5th again today. Fourth race in a row… And then as I was trying to get back on Chris’ wheel I went down in a corner. (At least I didn’t roll another tubular… I had rolled my rear Dugast in warmup). So I lost 10 seconds or so and just couldn’t close it in the final laps of the race. It also brought Andre right up to me and I struggled to stay in front of him all the way to the line. I did get him in the sprint! But that was definitely the hardest I’ve gone on the bike in a long time!
I have to say thanks to all the volunteers again. The courses here are getting so much better. The organization is good. The commissaires are getting better. Today was actually a long enough start straight that I had to shift. That brings me back to Europe… those starts are long enough that you can get tired, ease up, and go hard again before you have to corner. Eeeshk! And thanks to my family for coming out to cheer me on and everyone else who cheered and took pictures! Thanks!
So all in all it was a pretty good weekend! I love cross!

Tweet this! This is for all of your scoffed at me with my 2 cross bikes…
Today we travelled to Calgary for another double header. The course at Shaganappi Hall was awesome. Super technical, lots of off-cambers, lots of good corners, double barriers.
I had lots of time to get ready and had everything dialed. Warmup was fun–watching Dave eat it trying to hop the barriers (Mike did it in the race…). And THAT’S why you have double barriers–little to no advantage.
I had a good start too, the hole-shot, I wanted that knowing what was about to come. I eased up on the first false flat slog and Tim and Dave came flying by me–no chance to get on their wheels. After that, it was mostly just trying to hang onto wheels and not lose too much time. I was back and forth with Cody and thought I could catch Mike when crashed on the barriers, but then I rolled my tire (I have NO idea how–I was only remounting…). So Andre passed me, while Cody and Mike extended their gaps to a point of no return for me.
So I finished 8th. I thought I was 7th and was going to comment on how I rode the last 3 races mostly in 5th and dropped to 7th, but that would be a lie now. Not too bad. I still want to improve. But I’m happy with the way I rode technically and had fun.
Thanks Dad for having bike right there for the switch. And thanks to all those organizers and volunteers. Especially the wicked course designers! But can we possibly do a race with more than 6 minute laps???

Tweet this! Cyclocross is attempting to float with your bike over all kinds of terrain–grass, dirt, mud, snow, sand, etc.
Cyclocross is technical sections that cause splits–if half the field can ride the sandpit, but the other half can’t, that’s a good section. If I can’t corner as fast as the guy in front of me and have to jam coming out of it, that’s a good section. If I can run this mud section faster than you and get on my bike faster, that’s a good section. If you can bunnyhop 2 planks faster than I can get off, run, and get back on, that’s a good section.
Cyclocross is accelerating really hard all the time for an hour; but if I have to jam harder and more often to close the gap to you, then I’m probably going to lose.
Cyclocross is being able to do all of that for an hour!
Cyclocross is an unbelievable amount of fun!

Tweet this! So I started my 3 hour break, as I would any Tuesday or Thursday. We had a good discussion in Christian writings. I had some homework to do, but didn’t really feel like sitting alone. But with no immediate reply to texts I started wandering aimlessly…
I found myself walking toward Emily Murphy Park. So I just kept going and found incredible comfort in the beauty of the fall leaves on the ground, the brisk temperatures, the sunshine, and knowing that God, who loves me very much, created all of this!!! He also created me and has great plans for me!!!
As I try and figure out those plans I sit and enjoy the rest of His creation! In Him I am content. That is all I need! Thanks God!

Tweet this! We had our first Alberta Cup field riding race today. It was pretty exciting. Tim and co. put together a great event and a good course. Thanks. I was worried that the course wasn’t going to be technical enough, with many “turns” in the course and not really any “corners” but it turned out ok with the course being hard enough at race speed. The other thing that was lacking is a double set of barriers. But I will never be able to design a course from scratch, nor organize a great race, so I won’t complain too much and thank those who put forth the effort!
But I had a good start and was in the first couple for most of the race. I made the first real split with Chris, Aaron, Mike, and Dave. Mike and Dave were hopping the barrier, but we were able to keep it all close. There were a few attacks and a lot of looking at each other. I was feeling pretty good, until with 6 laps to go I ate it remounting after the barrier… dang! (I hope somebody got some pictures of that!) So I lost the group. But I turned up the throttle and came close to getting back in there. But to no avail. And when Shawn and Andre caught me, I was too bagged to stay with them to the end. So I hung on for 7th. Not bad.
I also thought lots about the future today and my plans and goals and how I want to and can possibly get there. Lots of thoughts. What else is new???
Picks for Starcrossed? J Pows!

Tweet this! So we had a pretty good weekend celebrating my grandma’s 80th birthday. We got to hang out, enjoy the scenery, good weather, great food, the company… Excellent!
I had written a post before we left about sex, wondering why the world is as crazy as it is- but deemed it a little more than the world is ready for…
But when we got back to the car after walking by Lake Minnewanka, these sicko guys were taking a picture of Carrie changing…
What is wrong with this world???
Are we so absolutely obsessed with sex that we’ll take pictures of unwilling and unknowing people we don’t even know???
What about going to the bar, going home to have sex with him and not even knowing him when you wake up???
Is sex just supposed to be fun?
What do married people think about sex?
Is it so crucial to our lives that we’ll pay to have it?
Do you wait for the one you love? Do you wait until you’re married? Why?
Sex is sacred. God created it for us to show and express the way we feel about the one we love. We are meant to become one flesh with our spouse-for which sex is good because a piece of you is left with the person you have sex with.
I recently had to be reminded of this-as humans we make mistakes and forget what we’re doing and where we are. I’m also reminded of how special sex is at weddings-I look forward to my wedding day, sharing with the one I love, something that is so totally special for us.
And events like today’s remind me of the sin in our world and the example that I want to be. Let alone the booming pornography industry and the startling fact that there is a very good chance that your 11 year old has looked at pornography. There could be a whole blog written about pornography, but I’ll just leave it at the fact that IT’S SICK!
With all that being said, we are human, we do make mistakes… but God will forgive everything in your past without even thinking about it. So look to that and move forward.

Tweet this! What is intimacy?
Is it purely physical?
Is it sharing something with the one you love? Be that a good conversation, some ice cream, or something else.
Is it me eating the amazing steak I just had for dinner?
Has it changed over the years?
Why do we crave it?
Is there any replacement for what is truly intimate?
…just what I’m thinking about right now…
